Tournament History
Curaçao is, by population, the smallest nation ever to qualify for a FIFA World Cup. An island of approximately 150,000 people in the southern Caribbean Sea, Curaçao has punched far above its weight by leveraging its Dutch connection — many players of Curacaooan descent have come through the Netherlands' world-renowned youth academies.
The remarkable qualification campaign saw Curaçao navigate a difficult CONCACAF qualifying path that included eliminating several larger nations. The team's tactical identity — disciplined, compact, and fast on the counter-attack — compensated for a lack of individual star power with collective organisation and spirit.
Remko Bicent's squad features players from across European leagues — Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, and beyond — reflecting Curaçao's diverse diaspora. The squad is young, hungry, and aware that they are writing a historic chapter for their small island. Every game they play at the World Cup is a first, and they will play without fear.
