Group Preview

🏆 Favourite: Canada

Jesse Marsch has transformed Canada into one of North America's most organised international sides. The 2022 World Cup appearance was always going to be a learning experience — 2026 is when they capitalise. Alphonso Davies is arguably the most impactful player in this group: a left-back who attacks with the pace and skill of a winger, capable of deciding games on his own. Jonathan David's clinical finishing gives them a striker they can build around, and Marsch's high-pressing system suits the energy of Cyle Larin and the creative quality of Tajon Buchanan.

🌟 Dark Horse: Bosnia and Herzegovina

Edin Džeko at 38 is still one of the most technically complete strikers in European football. His partnership with Roma teammate and national team-mate Edin Džeko's movement creates space that other teams struggle to deal with. Milan Mandžukić — the former player turned manager — has given Bosnia an intensity and organisation they lacked under previous regimes. If the defence can hold and Džeko stays fit, Bosnia can absolutely finish top-2. The wildcard is whether Mandžukić's tactical approach — combining the chaos of his playing style with disciplined systems — translates to the bench.

⚔️ Key Battle: Canada vs Switzerland

The decisive fixture of Group B is the head-to-head between Canada and Switzerland. Marsch's pressing intensity against Yakin's tactical organisation will be the tactical story of the group. If Canada win this game, top spot is theirs. If Switzerland can contain Davies and hit Canada on the counter, they demonstrate why they've been a perennial top-16 team at major tournaments.

❓ Key Question: Can Qatar compete at a second World Cup?

Qatar's 2022 campaign was a disaster — zero points, one goal scored, home pressure clearly affecting performance. Back for a second tournament with more experience, they now face different pressure: expectations from having hosted. Whether the Almoez Ali and Akram Afif partnership has developed enough to threaten Canada's defence or Switzerland's discipline is the central question of Qatar's participation.

Key Players

🇨🇦 Canada

Alphonso Davies — Bayern Munich's attacking left-back, arguably the best player Canada has ever produced. Pace, technique, and the ability to unlock tight games from deep wide areas. At 24, he is entering his prime.

Jonathan David — Lille's clinical striker with 20+ goals in each of the last four Ligue 1 seasons. Intelligent movement in the box and composed finishing make him Canada's key source of goals.

🇨🇭 Switzerland

Granit Xhaka — The midfield general. Bayer Leverkusen's captain brings leadership, tackling, and progressive passing from deep. His tournament experience is invaluable in tight games.

Manuel Akanji — Manchester City's defensive rock. Comfortable in a high line or deep block, Akanji's versatility makes him one of the most reliable centre-backs at the tournament.

Yann Sommer — Inter Milan's goalkeeper, consistently one of the best shot-stoppers in European football. His performance against Canada could decide top spot.

🇶🇦 Qatar

Almoez Ali — Qatar's all-time top scorer, the focal point of their attack. His movement and finishing ability give Qatar a goal threat even in tight games.

Akram Afif — The creative hub of Qatar's attack. His set-piece delivery and vision in the final third are the key to unlocking stubborn defences.

🇧🇦 Bosnia

Edin Džeko — The legend. 38 years old and still one of the most complete strikers in world football. His link-up play, aerial ability, and eye for goal make Bosnia dangerous against anyone in this group.

Roma Mukhin — The rising star of Bosnian football. A composed midfielder who provides the platform for Džeko to operate ahead of him. His development will define Bosnia's next generation.

Prediction

1st: Canada 🇨🇦

Davies is the best player in the group, Marsch has built a cohesive unit, and home-nation energy drives them to top spot. A historic first-place finish for Canadian football.

2nd: Switzerland 🇨🇭

Yakin's experience and tournament nous guide Switzerland to second place. The Xhaka-Akanji axis gives them a platform that can frustrate Canada enough to take points.

3rd: Bosnia 🇧🇦

Džeko's quality makes them dangerous but Mandžukić's managerial inexperience costs them. Bosnia lack the squad depth of Canada and Switzerland and miss out despite their star quality.

4th: Qatar 🇶🇦

A second World Cup appearance with more experience but the same structural problems. Qatar lack the creative quality to unlock well-organised European defences consistently.
